// How this was judged

Method

Four research backends (Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and xAI with X search) read Steam reviews and discussions, r/WarDogs, X, YouTube and press coverage from 10 Sep to 15 Oct 2026. Scale figures come from a keyword pass over 4,899 negative English Steam reviews (27 Sep–15 Oct) and from thread reply counts; long reviews match several complaints, so treat the percentages as indicators rather than shares. Each verdict was then checked line by line against the Season 02 notes. Season 2 reactions are to the notes posted on 14 Oct, before anyone had played it. Not everyone is unhappy: the top-scoring Season 2 post on r/WarDogs (295) calls the notes “absolutely incredible” coming from Battlefield.

Cheaters and anti-cheat

The most-cited problem the patch leaves alone. ESP and wallhack reports peak on EU evenings, and players say reports vanish without visible bans.

Season 2: No mention of cheating or anti-cheat anywhere in the notes. Region ping limits are the only indirect lever.

“The amount of ESP Cheaters I spotted… especially in EU Servers around 8 pm to midnight is insane.”

“Half of the server already reported this guy. Nothing happens.”

The seasonal wipe

Cash and unlocks reset each season. Players who learned this late say it killed their reason to grind.

Season 2: The wipe goes ahead. Faster role XP softens the climb back, but nothing carries over except cosmetics.

“I put around 80 hours into this game before I realized it had a full wipe system, and honestly, that completely killed my motivation to keep playing.”

Linux and Steam Deck blocked by anti-cheat

The kernel anti-cheat stops the game running under Proton, so Linux and Steam Deck owners cannot play at all.

Season 2: Not mentioned.

“having to uninstall Windows updates and manually repair a broken, unknown kernel anti-cheat just to reach the main menu”

Toxicity and racism in voice chat

Proximity voice is a selling point and a sore point. Players ask for moderation; plenty in the same thread argue against it.

Season 2: Nothing, beyond the Level 4 helmet muffling proximity chat for its wearer.

Frame drops and stutter in big fights

Frame rate sinks as a match heats up, even on mid-range hardware, and players report shadows that disadvantage some settings.

Season 2: One generic line: “performance and stability improvements”. No targets or specifics.

No party system: friends can’t pick a team together

Groups share server codes, sit in queues, then hope to land on the same faction.

Season 2: Squad intent tags and queued invites help inside a match. There is still no pre-match party or faction reservation, and the new switch lock adds friction.

“only way to guarantee playing together is accepting Blue and taking an automatic loss”

Audio cutting out

Positional audio drops or breaks mid-match.

Season 2: Only a gunner firing-audio desync fix for vehicles.

Gold Market FOMO

Seasonal skins priced in Gold Bars that many players never reach before they rotate out.

Season 2: The Black & Gold AK leaves and a new Season 2-exclusive Black & Gold Little Bird arrives, repeating the pattern.

One map, netcode and hit registration

Real but quiet: a single 256 km² map, and occasional hit-reg and desync reports.

Season 2: Rain re-dresses Bakurani and its spawns move; gunner fire desync is fixed. No new map, no netcode work listed.

The grind and the gear gap

Heavy players reach Tier 4 armour and AP ammo long before everyone else, and win most fights because of it.

Season 2: Role XP to level 20 cut 55%, armour reduction down 5 points, high-calibre damage cut 16–25%, losing teams get 20% off. But kit and vehicle prices went up at the same time.

“If you cannot afford to put 50+ hours a week into this game then it is not worth the money. You will have no chance in 80% of the combat scenarios.”

Helicopters dominate, anti-air is weak

Havoc and minigun Little Birds rule the sky; shoulder AA and rockets rarely land.

Season 2: Helicopters cost more (Havoc $18,000 → $28,000) and the minigun Little Bird unlocks later. Minigun damage falls with the calibre cuts and the Gepard joins. Flight models are unchanged.

High-ping players from other regions

Players asked for region locks after nights of fighting 200 ms opponents.

Season 2: Region ping limits, kicks and browser ping filters, which is not a region lock. Community servers can relax the limits.

“PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE REGION LOCKING A THING… I can not play on the WESTERN SERVERS at night”

Blue team keeps losing

Lonestar’s spawns and bright uniforms put it behind; experienced players avoid it, which makes it worse.

Season 2: A Season 2-only cash and XP bonus for Lonestar, plus moved Bakurani spawns. The three-team geometry is unchanged.

Team-switch saboteurs

Players switched sides mid-match to get inside enemy FOBs or feed intel.

Season 2: A 15-minute lock, an obscured map and no spawn vehicle until you reach the zone. A saboteur can still switch once.

Team-kills and loot theft

Friendly fire used to grief or to steal a teammate’s kit.

Season 2: Victim-driven Forgive / Punish votes with escalating bans. Players worry the vote does nothing about loot theft.

Mortar and FOB spam

Mortar emplacements everywhere, and the first shell’s camera reveals every other one.

Season 2: Mortar build cost 150 → 600 supply, half the ammo per pallet, slower firing. Shell-cam vision isn’t mentioned.

“the very first mortar I fire reveals every single emplacements location to me”

The Windows-update launch crash (WD-L020) was fixed in 0.1.2 on 30 Sep; crash reports still arrive.

Season 2: A generic stability line only.

Objective play doesn’t pay

Players argued the safest money came from staying away from the zone, and that winning paid nothing.

Season 2: Assault kills pay more, FOB hacks pay nearby teammates, spotting pays ~30% less. A win bonus exists only for Lonestar.

Logistics income cut

Base payouts drop and the new streaks only catch up after several return trips.

Season 2: Pallets $2,500 → $1,250, crates halved, return trips $250 → $150, with streak bonuses on top.

“So I have to return 5 times to the base in my Ural, before I start earning the same as I do right now.”

“Spotting is mostly dead. Building is mostly dead. Logistics is mostly dead…”

Price hikes on vehicles and parachutes

Helicopters, armed trucks and the basic parachute all cost far more per life.

Season 2: Basic parachute $100 → $500; Z20 Lakota Miniguns $8,000 → $15,000; Havoc $18,000 → $28,000.

“Nobody was even using it before, it needed profitability buffs if anything.”

Ping kicks for distant buyers

Players far from any server fear they’ve bought a game they can no longer play on official servers.

Season 2: Ping limits are new, and Bulkhead says the starting values are lenient.

“I have a avarage ping on EU-South and EU-West of 180-210ms”

The Lonestar bonus could just move the problem

Players predict stacked squads will chase the bonus to Blue, leaving another team as the loser.

Season 2: The bonus runs for Season 2 only, framed as an experiment.

“a lot of the more competitive players will probably switch to Blue, potentially turning Red into the new Blue.”

Spotting and the IR range finder

Spotting paid the most for the least risk, and the IR range finder made it easy.

Season 2: IR range finder pulled on 2 Oct, back on 80-second batteries; spotting pays ~30% less. Recon players now call it a nerf too far.
